Inspiration from a JAG Colonel

I love meeting fascinating people. It is interesting to see folks who are still serving their county and community...and then to find out everything they did in their younger years.

Colonel Jack Bender serves on our Regional Zoning Board. He is a retired lawyer, Air Force Colonel, Civil War historian and reenactor, Air Force Academy recruiter and the recipient of several notable awards. I had the pleasure of interviewing him for a Newton Kansan article.
I esepcially enjoyed the story of how he defended a prisoner of war in Vietnam in a divorce hearing and got the case dismissed. Ten years later, he met his freed client, Charles Plumb, who had become a motivational speaker. Plumb speaks about the behind-the-scenes man who packed his all-important parachute the day he was shot down. Colonel Bender was able to tell him that while he too had watched out for Plumb.
Here's a link to the full article.

Who do you know that led a fabulous life? What are you doing to fill yours?
